BRICON BULLETIN - February 2014
Welcome to the latest Bricon Bulletin. Thank you for choosing the Bricon timing system and helping to put Bricon out in front in the UK.
Please take note of the information raised within this Bricon Bulletin as it will help to ensure the smooth running of your Bricon system throughout this coming racing season.

BRICON MASTER SYSTEM UPDATE 2014 - now available online

Bricon software updates have always been made with the aim of developing the system further, so that both the club and fancier will enjoy an improved experience.

A software update has been issued for the CLUB-MASTER to enable manual synchronisation (the new master version is UK-07 update 0x11). To maximise Bricon system security, any club wishing to carry out a manual time synchronisation will require a special emergency code issued by Bricon UK and this will only be released in exceptional circumstances with the code valid for just a single day.

You will be happy to hear that for the second consecutive season there will not be a software update for either the Speedy or Speedylite clocks, as each is operating at optimal capability.

Step-by-step instructions to carry out the 2014 update are attached to this Bricon Bulletin.

The BRICON CLUB-EDITOR software programme also has updates, but this is an automated process with the program giving prior notice. After a BCE update, please check within the options section to ensure the localisation settings remain correct (ie. language, country and union).

BRICON CLUB-MASTER - BATTERY
The self-diagnostic Master Battery Test (introduced in last year’s update) remains operational.
If the 3 volt lithium battery within the master indicates a voltage of less than 2.5 volts then a low battery message will appear, although the master will continue to operate normally above 1.7 volts.
Please check your club master and if necessary contact Bricon UK to arrange for the master unit to be returned back to Bricon for a replacement battery to be fitted before the season commences.

BRICON CLUB-MASTER LOAN RENEWAL FORM
Please ensure that your club has returned a current Bricon Club-Master loan renewal form. A returned form enables us to continue to provide the best possible customer service to you. The form is an attachment and must be completed and returned at least once every two years. If you are not the club secretary, please either forward this email or the form onto them.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
There are many frequently asked questions and the correct answers soon puts minds to rest. A set of questions and answers has been compiled to help users get the best from their system. These FAQs can be found in an attachment to this Bulletin, and also on the Bricon UK website.
Why not print off a copy now and have the FAQ sheet ready at hand in the loft or at the clubhouse.

HAVE YOU REPLACED YOUR RADIO-CLOCK BATTERIES ?
Those clubs operating with a Radio-Clock should be aware that it runs on batteries. It is advised that these batteries should be changed at the start of each season. This will ensure its continued good running and the quick obtaining of the time signal. The radio-clock uses 2x AAA batteries which can be accessed by removing the back plate.

The Bricon Results Calculator will give your club a race result each week ... and it is FREE.
To obtain the package, turn on the Bricon Club Editor on the laptop used at the clubhouse.

Existing users will be pleased to hear that the programme now includes a database, so that each competitors distance for each racepoint can be inputted pre-season and retained permanently.

MAKE YOUR LIFE EASIER .... FLY WITH TWO SPEEDY CLOCKS
Many fanciers who compete in two clubs are choosing to make it much easier for themselves. Rather than enduring a quick dash from one club to another they are choosing to use two clocks. With a Bricon 'Split Cable' you can have two Speedy clocks connected up to your antenna system. This gives you the opportunity to go to one club with a clock, whilst a friend goes to another.

BRICON UPDATES FOR 2012

The 2012 software updates for the Bricon system have been available online since mid-January.

The update for the Club-Master (version UK-07 update 0x0D) gives several improvements.
Noticeable is a clearer message when attempting to basket a bird that is still in another race.
This reduces the risk of an error occurring where a bird is mistakenly allowed to go to the race.

The new software for the Speedy and Speedylite clocks (UK-12) also gives additional benefits.
Races from the previous year that had been left on the clock, will now be automatically closed.
Old races can therefore be deleted, without the clock having to be returned back to the club.
This is a major benefit when there is a wish to add birds prior to a coming race season.

Step-by-step instructions for the update can be found in the website download section or press here.

The version of the software on the master can be found when powering up the master.
This shows for about two seconds giving the version on the third line and the update on line five.
Once updated, the new clock software can be found on the master within updating (menu 12).
If the update has been carried out correctly this menu of the latest clock software should indicate
  • > 1.Little UK-20
  • > 2.blank
  • > 3.Speedy 012 UK
  • > 4.Speedylite 012
  • > 5.Bricon+ 007
Updates should always be carried out to ensure the smooth operation of the system.

10th March 2011

The latest BRICON update is now available.

There are currently no updates issued for the Bricon Club-Master or the Bricon Plus, but the software for the clocks has been improved and updated for the 2011 season.

The latest Speedy software version is UK 011 and gives several technical improvements.

The most noticeable improvement will benefit lofts timing with multiple antenna pads.
Previously the system carried its initial search for antennas at the start-up of clocking mode, but with the latest software update, the system will continue to carry out repeated searches. If during a subsequent search the system cannot find the full number of antenna pads as was found on the initial search then an alarm will be emitted by the clock to warn of the situation. This alarm will sound for 3 seconds followed by a break of 10 seconds. The alarm will indicate that one of the antenna pads connected after the first pad has stopped working because, for example, a connection cable may have become loose. This will then give the fancier the opportunity to rectify the situation. Please note that the Speedy clock will continue to record birds on the active antenna pads even when the alarm is sounding.

It is recommended that each fancier ensures that his Speedy clock is updated in order to take advantage of the latest improvements in the Bricon system, and to comply by union or association rules. It will take just 36 seconds to give a Speedy the latest software, once it has been connected to a Bricon Club-Master placed into updating mode (menu option 12).
BRICON update instructions 2011

The latest Bricon software versions as of 9th March 2011 are
Speedy 011 UK
Speedylite 011 UK
Little Bricon UK-20
Bricon Plus 007
Bricon Club-Master version UK-07 update 0x09

NB: The Speedy and Speedylite clocks will each show its software version on the top line of its display, whilst for a Bricon Plus it will be shown during start-up. The Bricon Club-Master will display a page for a couple of seconds on start-up, which gives the version on the third line and the update on the fifth line. Furthermore the software versions can also be found on the basketing and clocking print-outs.

Step-by-step instructions on how to carry out this latest update can be found within the Download section.

RPRA news relating to ETS

At the 2011 AGM of the RPRA a number of rule changes were made, including the following:

Rule 230 was amended so there is no longer any requirement to register ETS with regions prior to use.

Rule 234 was deleted so there is no longer any requirement for ETS systems to undergo testing by a club prior to the season.

The rule relating to the positioning of the antenna pads was also changed.
Rule 241 now reads as follows:
241. The positioning of the ETS sensors/antennae will not be allowed on any landing boards or other external surfaces in such a way that when the loft is closed no electronic chip ring may be recorded by the Electronic Timing System installed. Club Officials may make random checks at any time. Contravention of this rule will result in disciplinary action under Rule 70(A).
